Christmas Shopping Made Easy

From: 7th December 2020

Well… Christmas is nearly here. In fact everyone seems to have got into the Christmas spirit very early this year – even way back at the beginning of November! I think everyone wants something to look forward to and celebrate and even if we can’t see all our loved ones – Christmas is a perfect excuse to treat ourselves a little bit.

I’m really hoping that the garden centres haven’t run out of trees yet because we won’t be getting ours until my son is back from university next weekend. We have to have two trees as well. One for my two boys to decorate – even though they are 17 and 20 this still looks tacky (in fact they delight in the tackiness!) with multi coloured lights and some very dodgy decorations from over the years. My tree, on the other hand, is as designer as I can make it and no-one else is allowed to fiddle!

I love Christmas, always have. I think it comes from having wonderful family Christmas’s when I was little, with stockings (well a pillowcase) from Santa, decorations, wonderful food and all the family around.  As I have got older, I have tried to create the same kind of Christmas feel and make it as magical for my children as it was for me. Now they are all grown up – we still love the traditions around Christmas; from watching a Christmas film every night (Deck the Halls, Love Actually and Elf all make the top list) and the fact we are together playing silly games and eating too much.

Presents obviously play a key part in Christmas and looking at those brightly wrapped and ribboned gifts under the tree is another part of the excitement and magic of Christmas.

So why do we give gifts to each other at Christmas?

One of the main reasons we have the tradition of giving and receiving gifts is to remind us of the presents given to Jesus by the three wise men. Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. And Christmas itself is really about the gift God gave to the world in the form of his son, Jesus. As it says in one of the most famous bible verses John 3:16 ‘God loved the world so much, that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him may not be lost but have eternal life.’

All over the world families and friends give presents to each other. Most children believe in a magical gift bringer – whether this be St Nicholas, Santa Claus or Father Christmas. In Germany they believe is Christkind, in Spain, the three wise men and in parts of Italy, an old lady called Befana.

The presents are left in lots of different places too. In most of Europe, the presents are left in shoes or boots put out by the children. In Italy, America and here, presents are left in stockings, often left hanging by a fireplace or at the end of the child’s bed. This traditional of hanging stocking up comes from the story of St Nicholas. In many countries, presents for friends and family are put under the Christmas Tree. In the UK, they are often opened on Christmas day morning with all the family together. We open ours after lunch when all the work has been done, and you can enjoy a glass of something nice by the fire.

So now we know where the traditions come from – the big question is what to buy for the people you love. I know it should be easy, but I don’t think it ever is and it really can be quite overwhelming if you have a long list of people to buy for.

Here at Cavendish French, we thought we’d try and help you with some of our present ideas for friends and family this Christmas, and with all our jewellery pieces handmade from fine 925 sterling silver and set with AAA+ cubic zirconia, you can be certain that you will be buying a quality gift which they will treasure for ever.

We've made it so easy for you to buy by giving you a selection for each type of person you are buying for, so whether it is a hard to buy for teenager, a best friend or someone who loves animals or flowers we have the perfect silver jewellery for you.

If it’s a daughter or niece you buying for, what about our Silver and Cubic Zirconia Shooting Star Bracelet. A beautiful and delicate little sterling silver bracelet with a group of micro-set cubic zirconia shooting stars. You can alter the length too so it can fit any size wrist. It’s a best seller and one of our absolute favourites. Or maybe choose a pendant - one suitable for a younger wearer would be our Cute Little Silver and Cubic Zirconia Fairy Pendant with a nod towards Tinkerbell!

A gorgeous handmade silver bangle is a great choice for a mum or sister and our heavy weave sterling silver cuff bangle which is designed with two heavy polished strands of silver woven together would be perfect. We also like our sterling silver and cubic zirconia Feather Pendant and Leaf Ring which look both modern yet classic, and would be great gifts for mum.

Everyone loves flowers and if there’s someone with ‘green fingers’ in your family try our Tiny Silver Forget-Me-Not pendant.  Handmade from sterling silver, it’s a cluster of flowers which will certainly mean you will not be forgotten.

Do you have an animal lover on your list?  We love our Silver Fox Brooch; it really is a fantastic Mr Fox with a super shiny silver brush and pointed nose, sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face this Christmas.  Maybe a bee would be your choice …. our cute cubic zirconia bee pendant and earrings make the perfect little gift - everyone seems to be crazy for bees at the moment!

Have you got a ‘puzzler’ in the family?  Puzzles always seem to come out at Christmas, so how about surprising someone with some jigsaw jewellery, a really unique gift.  Our Sterling Silver Puzzle Piece Earrings always get lots of compliments … and if you want to really treat someone there’s an amazing matching silver bracelet.

Finally, what about a gift for someone you love …. can we suggest our Celestial Infinity Pendant. This gorgeous pendant is hand-made in sterling silver with a micro-set cubic zirconia infinity design and free floating cubic zirconia stones in the centre which spin and dance as you move. The perfect jewellery gift to show a loved one your endless love. If your budget is a little more limited - how about a shiny pair of sterling silver heart studs such as our Polished Little Silver Heart Earrings.  A lovely simple gift which will say it all without costing the earth.

Something else which might make it easier for you to choose is our Christmas Gifts for Her Collection where we have put together some of our customer’s favourite silver jewellery for you to choose from. And if you are trying to keep the costs down this year, then have a look at our collection of Stocking Fillers with all the jewellery priced below £40.

We deliver all our jewellery to you in a free branded gift box too, (and free UK standard postage) so it's all ready to pop in their stocking or under the tree.

So, now you’ve got all your Christmas shopping sorted out, time to finish the decorations, book that supermarket slot and get the glitter out with the children (I always tried to avoid glitter..)

We all hope you have a wonderful Christmas and that 2021 is a brighter and happier year for all of us.
