Bees, Trees & Butterflies Silver Jewellery

From: 6th May 2021

Today, I thought I’d write about some of the jewellery our customers are loving at the moment – some of our most popular designs which I’m sure you will love too.

It’s all about jewellery heralding in the Spring and warmer Summer days (although you wouldn’t guess that from looking outside the window today) but they are also symbols which come from nature and the natural world around us. The three themes I have picked all hold symbolic meanings and that’s why I love this jewellery and how it can make people feel, it can be so personal and individual. Handmade silver jewellery can be so much more than a silver necklace or earrings – it can have a much deeper meaning both for the giver and for the person wearing the piece.

Bee Jewellery

So, let’s start with bees, I have talked about then in detail before, but everyone is still mad for them, so I wanted to showcase some of our most popular designs. Welcome to our beehive - a wonderful collection of bees in all shapes and sizes from stripy honeybees to sparkling busy bees to 18 carat gold plated little bees.

The bee represents so many different things and everyone can have a different or personal reason to love bees. For me, they symbolise community, friendship and selflessness, as well as brightness, joy, beauty and celebration. They start their work in the spring and apart from being a key link in the circle of life, they add to the colour & beauty of Summer and I love to see them buzzing back and forth working so hard, carrying pollen from one blossom to another.

So, giving a friend or loved one a piece of Bee jewellery has so many special meanings. The wearing of a bee necklace can symbolise a strong network of unconditional love and support. It is also thought to bring good luck and wealth to the wearer.

Our bee jewellery collection is handmade in 925 sterling silver and set with sparkling AAA* cubic zirconia. We have designs with yellow or clear stones with matching sets of earrings and bee necklaces.  My new favourite is our newly launched Bee Disc Necklace - a polished silver disc set with a cute little 18 carat gold plated and cubic zirconia bee. He looks great layered with other silver necklaces and chains. The chain is 28" long but can be adjusted to any length you choose. Our other new addition to the hive is our gorgeous Busy Bee Pendant, handmade in silver and with sparkling cubic zirconia set wings and body. It also has a heart shaped cubic zirconia solitaire suspended from the bottom.

When you wear a piece of bee jewellery designed by Cavendish French it reflects timeless values, linking the best of traditional values with a modern design.

Tree of Life Jewellery

My next choice (well yours really!) in the tree of life. Tree of Life jewellery has become more and more popular over the years, but it has so many different meanings - religious, spiritual and secular and it can also have a very personal meaning to anyone who chooses to wear a tree of life design piece of jewellery.

I was fascinated to read all about the beliefs and symbolism behind the tree of life so thought I’d share some of them with you.

The symbolism of trees has been woven into myths, stitched into tapestries and told in stories in many different cultures.

The Tree of Life in Religion and Cultures

It is represented in almost every religion, it is there in Christian culture – the tree of life is mentioned in the Bible many times, planted next to the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden, and although Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden, God decreed that anyone who followed His word would be able to enjoy the gifts given by the tree of life. Some may wear tree of life jewellery in a statement that they are living by God’s values.

In Celtic culture, the tree of life was an important Pagan symbol. They believed that trees were ancestors and a doorway to the “otherworld”. The roots of a tree were said to be in the Other World; the trunk in the mortal world and the branches represented the heavenly world.

The design is also associated with the Bodhi Tree of Buddhist beliefs. This is the tree from which Buddha received enlightenment and wisdom, which he passed on to his followers and the world. The tree is a sacred symbol in Buddhism.

In Islamic Culture, the Tree of Life represents immortality in the Quran and in Jewish Culture the tree of Life was planted by Yahweh in the centre of a garden, and it represents food of life.

But the tree is not only important in religion, people have also woven the meaning of the tree of life symbol into many cultures, myths and stories, even the tradition of decorating the evergreen tree for Christmas, celebrates the tree.

There are also a lot of other meaningful secular reasons behind why people choose to wear Tree of Life style jewellery.

Interconnectedness

The Tree of Life is a timeless symbol of our connections to everything around us, and a powerful reminder that our happiness and health are intertwined with all living things. The circle, which is usually shown around the tree, represents the world while the tree, branches and roots stand for everything in it and how it is all connected.

Family

Another big reason for wearing the Tree of Life is to represent links between family. With its stretching branches and roots, it signifies the family tree and reminds us of all the people we are connected to through our ancestry and genes. The intricate branches show that we are connected through ever-expanding branches of family.

Growth & Strength

Many wearers seek strength in the tree of life which buries its roots deep within the soil and uses this stability and strength to grow upwards with its branches reaching up to the sky. It is a symbol of growth and strength and just like a tree, a person grows stronger over time and strives for greater knowledge and new experiences.  A great talisman for anyone facing new challenges every day and needs to find the strength to face them.

Rebirth

We all know that most trees lose their leaves during the autumn and find new life in spring. For this reason, the tree of life, for many, is a symbol for a fresh start, good health and a brighter future. The perfect jewellery gift for someone about to begin a new venture or needs encouragement and strength to move forward.

Tree of Life Jewellery Collections

Our Tree of life design jewellery shows a range of modern and stylish pieces which keep the symbol as relevant today as it has always been. All our designs are handmade in sterling silver and many are set with AAA* quality cubic zirconia stones.

Take a look at our newly launched Spring Tree of Life Design Pendant This silver pendant showcases a leafy, very natural design that emphasises the beauty and majesty of nature. The absence of the normal surrounding circle gives a wonderful sense of growth and abundance: this tree and the beauty it symbolises will continue to grow without constraint.

This Cubic Zirconia Encrusted Silver Tree of Life Design Pendant adds sparkle and the suggestion of fruits or flowers. It's a wonderfully modern change from the more traditional designs, evoking an added sense of glamour combined with the beauty of nature.

Finally, if you are looking for something a little bit different, our Tree of Life Celestial Pendants are so striking and definitely that little bit different. This silver pendant showcases an 18 carat rose or yellow gold plated tree which is set between two crystal lenses with free dancing cubic zirconia stones. These are a lovely way to celebrate your spiritual side, acknowledging the wondrous power of Mother Nature.

Butterfly Jewellery to Make your Heart Flutter

My third theme is butterflies, and like bees and trees, who doesn't love butterflies? These delicate beautiful creatures almost seem to have a magical quality with their power to transform from a humble caterpillar to a vibrant butterfly. But as well as a symbol of transformation and rebirth, they also have other wonderful meanings, for example, in Asia butterflies are a symbol of long life. Two butterflies together are also seen as a sign of love and this is demonstrated in some parts of the world by the release of butterflies after a wedding ceremony.

In some Native Americans cultures, they believe if you capture a butterfly, tell it your wish, when you let it go, it will fly up to the Great Spirit for you wish to be granted. What a truly wonderful idea!

In many cultures, the butterfly is also associated with the soul and therefore is a deep and meaningful representation of life. Not only this, but a butterfly is seen as a symbol of prosperity, positivity and new beginnings. Giving silver butterfly jewellery as a gift is a perfect way to celebrate recent achievements or significant changes in someone's life, such as a wedding, moving house, an important birthday or a new qualification.

I’ve picked just a couple of our most popular butterfly jewellery designs to showcase. Our Simple Silver Butterfly Stud Earrings are handmade in sterling silver and would make a great 18th birthday present or confirmation gift. Or if you love a bit of sparkle and beautifully detailed jewellery, then this silver pendant is for you. Designed with four adorable cubic zirconia set butterflies which flutter together, sparkling and glittering as they catch the light. With such variety to choose from why not bring a little butterfly magic into your life.
