Young people are continuing to spend money on silver pendants and other fashion items despite financial troubles caused by the recession, according to an expert.
Tamara Sender, senior fashion analyst at Mintel, said that UK fashion spending in 2009 was primarily driven by young people.
"In some ways the recession has been passing some people by and they continued buying goods to keep up with the latest trends and they are going to continue to do so in 2010," she stated, adding that one in five 16 to 24-year-olds spent more on clothes last year than they usually would do.
Ms Sender commented that fashion retail brands were likely to continue to perform well in 2010, as people look to keep up with the latest trends in silver pendants and other accessories.
Her words came following a survey published by the Office for National Statistics, which showed that the volume of textile, clothing and footwear sales for May year-on-year was up by 7.1 per cent.
