Silver pendants: Jewellery trade continues to perform well
Sales of silver pendants and silver bracelets are continuing to keep the jewellery trade performing well, according to new figures.
The KPMG/Synovate Retail Think Tank's July members' sitting showed that retail health improved from 85 points to 86 in the first quarter of 2010.
Furthermore, the Confederation of British Industry's Distributive Sales Survey for July found that 51 per cent of its surveyed retailers said that sales were higher than this time last year.
Rodney Banks-Lyon, owner of Banks Lyon Jewellers, told Retail-Jeweller.com that consumer confidence is continuing to sit at a high level.
"Business picked up considerably in the second quarter this year in my store. I think that now we've got the election out of the way, consumers know where they stand and have a greater sense of certainty and confidence," he added.
The news comes despite the confederation's Distributive Trades Survey of retailers last month, which found that high street sales had fallen for the second consecutive month.
