Holidays are often full of adventure, mixed in with plenty of sunshine and a bit of swimming, which means that people should not take their best diamonds or pearls with them, according to a guide.
Brix Smith-Start, a television stylist and fashion guru, who is supporting Thomson's Forever packing campaign, said that everyone wants to look fabulous on their holiday, however, not enough people give any thought to what outfits they will want to wear when they are abroad.
He added that therefore, travellers end up with a suitcase full of clothes and jewellery which will not see the light of day.
"Holidays are not the place for diamonds and pearls. If you lost something valuable when you were away you'd be devastated and it is more likely to happen when you are moving around," he stated, adding that fun and bright jewellery, including silver pendants, should be packed instead.
Imogen Fox, writing for the Sydney Morning Herald, advised that silver bangles can give people the celebrity chic look when at the airport.
